Reflections on an Emerging Student-Centered Learning Ecosystem: Inquiry and Ideas (Part II)

As the fellowship took shape, each teacher brought assets of their own that they knew could work, but also a willingness to learn that came from not seeing their approach as “the” answer. In the words of improv comedy, they came with bricks rather than a cathedral.  This kind of openness to inclusion would be key to ideation and innovation. The smartest person in the room may be the room, but only when everyone who should be is in the room.

How We Treat Each Other

There are no perfect people, so let's stop pretending to have it all together. More authenticity and honest conversations are needed in schools. Artificial harmony is not going to take us where we need to go.

Less Rush. More Presence.

Because really...isn't that what our schools and classrooms need at the end of the day? Calm care and a profound sense that what we are doing together is special and worthy of savoring? Less rush. More presence.

Brave Enough to Care & Try

Move. Do it small if you need to but do it with big heart and consistency. Simply keep showing up. The world needs people who are care and are willing to try, learn, and try again. It's that simple.

Top 40 Lessons

No one is thinking about you as much as you are thinking about you. When we come to understand that, we are liberated from worrying too much about what other people think.

It Can Wait

Turn that song up, roll the windows down, take that walk with that person you love. Live your life fully in little moments. It's all we have - these little moments.

People before Process

And all the time, it's about the people. It's not about the rules. It's not about winning or being right. It's about removing small barriers to give people greater access to a positive experience and a positive learning experience.

Thank You, Educators

We cannot do it alone. We cannot solve the big challenges in our schools by ourselves. Not individually. Not even solely as an individual school. Meaningful change will require us to partner district office and members of our community and other schools near and far. Meaningful change will require us to get uncomfortable and take risks.
